Urbino

Great sons of Urbino include Raffaello Sanzio (1483-1551), painter Donato Bramante (1444-1514), the genius architect Timoteo Lives (1469-1523) painter and ceramac artist Nicolò di Urbino (1538.
Strong traditions in the area are deep-sea fishing, agriculture, the breeding of courtyard animals, angling in the small private lakes and rivers. For gastronomes the truffle is available almost all year round.
Ancona
Ancona is laid out in the form of an amphitheatre on the hills that encircle the harbour, rising around the bay formed by Mt Conero. The harbour is the most important on the Adriatic coast and a major transport hub. The city is divided in two parts: modern and ancient. The surrounding countryside is varied due to the green vineyards that cover the harsh encircling mountains. Fano is 50km away.
Marine excursions from Ancona by daily excursion offer the opportunity to explore the Croatian coast. There are also good ferry links to the entire Mediterranean Coast. Airports with low cost flights are Forli and Ancona.
Ascoli Piceno
Situated between mountains and hills of the Appennines, the medieval city Ascoli Piceno, it is delimited by the Tronto and Castellano rivers. The beauty of the landscape is famous in Italy and there is summer and winter tourism. Agriculture is important and the surrounding plains yield produce of high quality, the hills are planted with vineyards. Deep-sea fishing provides a wonderful selection of seafood.
Pesaro, a Marche port, is 12km from Fano, and has Roman orgins - being an important stop on the via Flaminia. During the Roman Imperial period it developed as a trading centre. Located between the valley of the river Foglia and the blue of the Adriatic sea, Pesaro is the home town of Gioacchino Rossini, and well known as the city of music, the maiolica made here since 1500, and of furniture. Its flourishing handicraft includes enamelled copper, wrought iron, goldsmithing and pipes in briar-root..
Fossombrone
Fossombrone Forum Sempronii whose name comes from the tribune Caio Sempronio Gracco, important city of Roman Empire. Situated in the mountainous landscape of Metauro which is remarkably beautiful, while being only 25 km from the seaside town of Fano.
Macerata city was established in the 11th and 12th centuries, and was named the earth of Maceriatinis, in the 967 in a certificate of the Emperor Ottone I. The Civic Tower (64 m high) was planned by Galasso in the style of the the end of the Renaissance. A trip up the tower to the terrace will reward you with a marvellous view that spans from the Sibillini mountains to the sea.
