Sightseeing and Practical Information:

Our tips: Pistoia - is one of northern Tuscany's little known towns that has a pleasant pedestrianised centre enclosed within medieval walls.

Pistoia Baptistery
Pistoia Mountains
Cutigliano
Pistoia Church Tower
 Must see:
There are many beautiful churches, of which the Duomo is a classic example of Renaissance ecclesiastical architecture, a small modern art gallery that shows mainly local artists, and for the children there is are the substantial zoological gardens that make for a great day with the animals.
Pistoia Market - Wednesday and Saturday Mornings
Local market selling everything from practical items, fruit and vegetables and Tuscan delicacies, to clothes and accessories. Pistoia Mountains

The Pistoia Mountains form the foothills of Apennine Mountains that are the barrier between Tuscany and Emilia Romagna. Visit Cutigliano and stop at the restaurant Il Fagiolino ("the little bean") or taste wine in the Il Fagiolino wine cellar.

Or go to Il Cochino restaurant in Montale for a truly genuine Tuscan meal.

Take a walk in the mountain along the Iron Road where ironsmiths once plied their trade. A second walk along the ancient Strada del Ghiaccio, or road of ice leads you along the old route where ice men extracted ice for supply to nearby cities. In Popiglio there is a picturesque suspension bridge "Il Ponte Sospeso" over a narrow gorge.
